Sneakers & Movies–and Blockchain and Web3?!

Writing that headline just doesn’t feel right: how could Blockchain and Web3 be disrupting the Sundance Film Festival and Nike running shoes?  Well, they are, and it’s further evidence that Goodland Tech’s Cloud & Crypto Computing Program students are preparing for a world far beyond cryptocurrency and NFTs.

The Sundance article is the easier of the two to understand: Blockchain was leveraged to crowdfund a movie, Fuzzy Head, that will premiere at this year’s Festival.  However, beyond the democratization of film funding, the article also points to creative NFT projects by some prominent actors.  The result is a film industry that, because of Blockchain applications, will be putting out different types of movie projects.

Most of the Nike article describes a creative promotional contest they’ve launched via its NFT platform, and there’s no question that it’s a way to leverage cutting-edge technologies to connect with different designers.  But there’s also a casual mention–the last sentence of the article–that Nike is now in its third year of connecting RFID to Blockchain to trace its supply chain.  So, more than just promotions, we see a long-term future for technical experts to use Blockchain, Web3, and Crypto skills at companies like Nike to improve the company’s operations and products.

So, the next time you’re catching a movie with friends or jogging your favorite trail, know that there may be a little Blockchain involved!
